A cold morning on the bike

First morning out with the Ratoath (free) wheelers group. Did 50km in two hors with a few little hills thrown in for good measure. Route consisted of Ratoath, Skryne, Kilmessin, Dunsany, Dunshaughlin, Trim Road, Batterstown, Fairyhouse Road and back to Ratoath. Nice route and when the training starts to pick up two laps would be a nice testing route.

255 days to go........

As the 2010 season draws to a close I can look back on the year with a smile on my face at what I have achieved in 2010.

  • Joey Hannon Sprint Triathlon
  • Fingal Sprint Triathlon
  • Kilcock Sprint Triathlon
  • Midland Tri Club Aquathon Series 1,2 & 3
  • Hell of the West Olympic Triathlon
  • Clogherhead Sprint Triathlon
  • 3.8 Ironman Swim Dunmore East
  • Wicklow 100
  • The Ö till Ö
I have achieved everything I wanted to and best part of all is I did it injury free which in itself is the biggest blessing. Taking the months of September & October completely off from training and returning to a diet of sugar, the odd take-away and beer, I must now re-focus my efforts once again to my new goal.

On the 3rd of July 2011 I will compete in my first ever Ironman in Austria. This will consist of 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run. The training plan I have made for this event is one of two halves. First half begins straight away and will last until Feb 2011 when the second half begins. The 1st is getting the body back working to approx 8 hours per week. This will consist of me Swimming 3 mornings per week. Running two evenings per week and a long cycle on a Sunday morning. The 2nd half of my program reaches 18 hours per week in some cases but also consists of rest weeks to allow my body to recover.

Tomorrow I will begin my first run and Sunday I will return to the road on the bike and next week I will return to the pool.

Quitters never win and winners never quit
